Backup MySQL DBs to Amazon S3 Bucket using Python

In this tutorial I’ll show you the simple Python script that takes the compressed MySQL dumps and then upload it to AMAZON S3 Bucket. The script will also automatically delete the backup that are older than the days (mentioned in the script).

Requirements:

This script requires boto. Install boto using pip:

sudo pip install boto

Backup to Amazon S3 Bucket from CentOS 6.4

In this tutorial I’ll make mysql db backup and then upload it to AMAZON S3 Bucket using S3CMD tool and bash script. The script will also create the separate folder automatically for each day inside the bucket.

Before starting this tutorial, we need to install the EPEL for s3cmd tools:

wget http://ftp.riken.jp/Linux/fedora/epel/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-6 
wget http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
rpm --import RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-6
rpm -ivh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
yum repolist

Switch to the root user:

sudo su -

Part-1: Creation of Hard drive image using Clonezilla

Scenario:

The scenario is really simple, in which  I want to backup my Ubuntu server using the “CloneZilla Live” and also want to store it on another server which has an ip address of 192.168.179.141. If you want to learn more about CloneZilla, please visit this link.

Let’s start the tutorial by inserting the CloneZilla Live CD into the server that you want to backup and boot from it.

Backup MySQL DBs to a remote FTP Server

In order to send the compressed DB backup to the remote ftp server, we need to make sure that gzip and ncftp are installed on our server. Use this command to install these packages:

Automatic backup from Ubuntu Server with Rsync

Scenario:

2 Ubuntu Server: 1 is named as tendo-Srv with an ip address of 192.168.1.190, from which we want to take backup and 1 is named as tendo-backup with an ip address of 192.168.1.177, on which we want to place our backup. But we want all this process automatic, at a defined time/ interval.

Generate the ssh key pair on tendo-Srv:

ssh-keygen
